Did a run through of my own course: Even though I hung out all the control 10 days ago, I had not taken the course in the correct order, so I managed to not find the optimal routes everywhere.

Hunting fixed controls using my race bike with an MTBO map holder. I made a couple of orienteering mistakes, but most of my time loss was due to not spotting the controls, sometimes because they were slightly misplaced. Still a very nice ride, even with the gravel patches and a number of curbs to jump.

I failed to spot the streamer right in front of me on #1, spent about 90 sec before I came back. I made a tiny wobble into #3, otherwise pretty good.

2nd loop was much better than the first. I misread the open/semi-open towards #1 but corrected quickly, then I lost direction for a bit while crossing the _very_ wet marsh before #2.
The rest was good.

Did not tape my ankles, so I ran very carefully. I failed to spot the streamers in a few locations, largest time loss on #7 which I passed right by

My route to #9 was quite stupid, going straight would have been significantly faster!

My head was never into this race, but I needed the run to distract myself so I was happy I started. Mostly OK routes, one really significant mistake into #3 where I didn't see the control and started to doubt my direction even though it was close to perfect. Lost about a minute here.

Pretty good orienteering: I lost significant time to #3 due to going straight: The initial half had a lot of micro-hils and heavy heather and other undergrowth, so making a wide right turn was better.

On #11 I failed to spot the flag even though I looked for it at the south end of the knoll. I lost a minute here.

A set of 4 intervals on the nice Torsnes map, only somewhat marred currently by new logging.
I missed #1 because the bare rock patch where I first climbed up was so large that I was sure that I was a bit higher on the hill. If I had just glanced to my left I would have spotted it. At the same time I should have noticed the boulder next to the path.
I ran OK to #2 & 3.

During the second interval I followed the bare rock patches to #4, took a bearing to #5 but after crossing the path by the double bend area I still managed to veer off course into the control.
#6 & 7 were both OK.

On the third interval the part from the path into #8 had significant residue from logging work, I hit the flag perfectly even though it wasn't visible more than 5m away.

The last interval was my worst: I hit #10 nicely, did the same on #11, except that I didn't see the streamer and the cliff was much less obvious than most on this map. Also on the last control I stopped too soon because I could see the end of the ditch but not the marker.

Tried to run with a very swollen knee, so I was mostly moving at jogging pace. No real mistakes since I had plenty of time to orienteer.

I was on the entry list for this race, but unfortunately sick at the time. Oppsal however decided to let the flags for this and three other courses hang so they could be used for individual runs!
I think I ran very close to perfect, with optimal routes and execution. The only place I lost a few seconds was into #4 where a big fur windfall blocked the direct route so I had to detour around it.
Near the end, to #8 I suspected that running straight would be the fastest but I was so tired at this point that I bailed out to the path. Looking at the Livelox tracks, it is probable that this cost me 10+ seconds.

Pretty good orienteering! I think #3 was located a tiny bit too far south/high in the reentrant.
#4 was definitely too high up, but the green vegetation was larger than shown on the map.
My worst mistake was on #6 where I suddenly spotted a flag as I was running up along the target reentrant, but this control was located on the nearby boulder instead. When I then cut across to my control I once again had to climb a bit higher up than indicated. I lost 35-40 sec here.
To #8 I knew that there is a ski track west of the lake, but since I didn't have that on my map, I ran on the east side where the map shows white forest.
The rest was OK.

Extreme compass exercise: The solid yellow depressions, as around #2 were very distinct, but the rest of the vegetation drawing was quite unreliable. I only noticed one control (#6) which was obviously misplaced, but had some problems with several others as well.
I have not seen the official result list yet, but it is possible that I won the race even though I have been sick for a few days and only jogged around the course.

Another local race on modified (no paths) map. I made one really serious mistake on #8 where I never spotted the special detail near the top of the hill and therefore believed that I was too far north/away from the location. Lost 3 min here!

Ran on a modified map, with all paths removed. This meant that I had to rely on compass plus contours and some water details for my orienteering. My only serious mistake was on #8 where I did a parallel mistake, reading the map around #7 instead and looked for the reentrants. Lost about 45 sec.
I also lost maybe 15 sec on the the last control when I first checked the earlier cliff since I didn't understand the contours plus semi-open mapping.

Tough terrain, but my only real mistake (75 sec) was a bit over halfway to #1 when I hit a path/track junction and was so mentally tired that I thought I was already at the track/road junction!

Otherwise I think my routes were OK, without the error to #1 I would have matched Rune Berge here.

Ran directly after a heavy dinner, so everything moved in slow motion.
Got confused by al the new paths towards #2, plus the logging that had occured there.
The area around #8 was white forest, no semi-open yellow north of the flag.
#10 was placed close to the center of the ring, but well inside the medium green.

Won all split times on this race, but Tom A Karlsen who won H70 using the same course was less than 3 min behind, two of them on the first control where he probably ran straight.

For the rest of the race we had similar speed.

6.6 km sykkel (250m høyde) frem til den 400m lange stien til KP 30, Bjørnsjøhelvete og den berømte broen. Vi tok matpausen her slik at det gikk totalt 70 min før vi begynte å sykle igjen.

22 minutter på 5,3 km med 170 høydemeter frem til Fortjern hvor vi igjen parkerte syklene og gikk drøye 400m opp bakken på snøen fra vinterens skiløype, klippet/fotograferte post 29 og gikk ned igjen i løpet av 22 min.Her var det ca 100 høydemeter.

Til slutt brukte vi omtrent 40 minutter på å sykle ned igjen, tilbake til Hammeren. Pga den første tøffe bakken så er det faktisk 170 høydemeter den vien også.

Totalt ca 24 km på sykkel og 2 km på bena, drøyt 600 høydemeter på sykkel og 200 på bena.

Final test before TIomila, the race went at least as well as I hoped, but quite disappointed that I ended up running effectively totally alone for the entire race. I saw a couple of senior runners near my 7th control, but that was it.

I think I ran mostly correct routes and no serious control mistakes in the sometimes very dense bush, only 10-15s lost inside the ring on #6 and #10.

Test night race before Tiomila: Good orienteering but I got mentally tired after about an hour. When the second to last control was slightly misplaced, I spent 5 minutes locating it.

I got DSQ'ed on control 15 even though I am certainly stamping on that control! My headcam video show that I am moving my left hand with the EmiTag directly over the control plate, but since I immediately looked towards the next control, it does not show the response, i.e. the yellow LED blinking.
The strange track log on #12 is where I got an error beep from my GoPro as it was powering off. I stopped and walked away from the control while I restarted the camera and got the video restarted, but the race up to that point was lost.

This was by far the most interesting course in OCC this year, I probably made a number of smaller route mistakes, along with some hesitations.

Too slow running speed, but much better orienteering than yesterday: Close to perfect?
According to Livelox/WinSplits I lost up to half a minute to #7 when the area north of the dirt road was newly logged (not shown on the race map) and I failed to find the best way through the obstacles/hesitated into the control.

I also lost some time to the last control, but that was mostly due to taking a bad fall while climbing down to the road: Abrasions on both legs and one lower arm, plus a bruise covering two ribs.

I mostly ran the same routes as Nils Hæstad and he was almost 7 minutes faster than all the rest of us, so about 1.5 min/km!

Good until just before #6 where I had to stop about 45 sec for a stomach issue, then even thoughI hit the control nicely, I had attempted to pass through #7 on the way, without spotting it.
I ran this race as a test, with a thumb compass for the first time in more than 30 years, and now I failed to hold the direction as closely as I'm used to. As I passed the control the first time, I though I saw samething down to my right, but I wasn't going to repeat the mistake I did last Sunday when I stopped too early. I lost more than a minute here.

Next I ran a compass direction to #8, but again failed, I saw the indistinct path but it was so narrow that I thought it wouldn't be mapped. Lost 90 sec!

My bad streak continued when I failed to understand where I should leave the path towards #9, lost another 45 sec.

I made two mistakes towards #11: First when I left the path too soon, thinking I was already on the downward bend (maybe 15 sec due to the boulders and rocky ground?), than at the end I should have taken the path further around an attacked via the marsh and the reentrant that lead directly to the control.

OK to 12 & 13.

Total time loss was between 4 and 5 minutes, so my worst orienteering so far this year.

This was my best OCC sprint race in a few years: All my routes were optimal, and I never stopped at a control since I had always had time to work out at least the start of the next leg before I punched. It turned out that on both #1 and #18, going the other direction from what I did was exactly the same time. For the other controls quite a few routes were very obvious but a few runners still managed to make mistakes.

Second day was too tough for me, I was still tired from yesterday, and got to pay for that immediately when I took so long to get up to #1 that even though I was exactly where I thought I was, I still returned to check a control I spotted behind me. This cost me a minute, but the main reason Sören was 11 minutes faster than me today was my abysmal running form.

Very good orienteering,I ended up in 3rd place, 2:50 behind Sören Jonsson who ran much faster, particularly on the long leg to #10 where he beat me by almost a minute. I was probably a bit unlucky when I had to cross an unmapped moss-covered boulder field going down the light green hillside. On #9, after half the race time and 2/3 of the controls I was in 2nd place and just 46 sec behind but then I lost two minutes on the 5 last controls which had more down- and uphill running and a bit less orienteering.

OK forest part (2nd place on control 7), but then I lost 7 places on the remaining street running, ending up in 9th place.
I made one bad mistake on the easiest control of them all, #8 where I just had to hit the fotbridge over the highway. At that point I could not read the map since it was so dark and rainy, so I never saw the wide brown paths on the map.

My back still hurts quite a bit, so I can't really run properly, but I still managed my best race of the season, ending with seconds place just behind my brother and almost 3 min ahead of the rest.
Very close to perfect orienteering, optmial routes everywhere. :-)

I had a partially slipped disk just before Easter, but an immediate chiropractor visit plus a back specialist doctor who gave me 6 cortison injections, two on each side of three lower back disks, saved me so I could do classic skiing every day during Easter break. The pain is still not gone, so today I had to run/jog very caerfully, trying to avoid any harder impacts.
I got a tiny bit to far right towards #2, overshooting the control. Dropped maybe 20-30 sec here?
3 & 4 were OK, but I decided to not follow the path around to #5, just to avoid any downhill running on the rocky main paths. I did no manage to hold a proper course and ended up on the wrong side, so I started to follow that path in the wrong direction until I checked my compass. This was probably a minute++ time loss.
For the rest I only last a few seconds when I changed my mind from 10-11, if I had gone directly to the path that would have been 5-10 sec faster.

All my running over the last several months have been in the form of very steep (10-15%) uphill intervals in order to hopefully recover from a meniscus problem, but today that meant that my actual running speed on flat parkland was a minute slower per km that what I hope to be in a couple of months time.
The course was of course dead simple, even in the 2-3 locations where we had an actual route choice, the livelox tracking shows that it made almost no difference what you selected, with the possible exception of the long leg to #15 where going right was both shorter and a bit faster.

Very nice conditions for my first O run in snow-free terrain this year. I did the first two intervals with OK orienteering: Checked the cliff north of the control to #2, then the rest of that loop and the second interval was OK.
I cut the third loop short, only picking up the last control on my way back to the car park.

I ran this course three days after the event, so no markers but that didn't make any significant difference. I had some stomach pain near the end so I skipped the final two-control loop.

I ran this event before sunset because we were having our daughter and grandson over for dinner, I don't think daylight vs headlamp made any difference here, except that the small control flags with a reflex stripe are easier to spot at night.
My running form is back to very bad, just like before we went on the PWT cruise and I did stop in a few places to consider which route to take depending upon the local snow cover.
