Veritas Night (2018-10-31)

Even after many, many races in this area, both as course planner and as a regular competitor, it is still very hard to make a totally clean night race here. :-)

Tonight I did OK to the first 6 controls even though I was almost a minute slower than Jan Tore Henriksen, but then I managed to pass just a few meters to the north of #7 (which was located in fairly dense green as the map shows), and then it took me several attempts to relocate and finally find it. Lost 3 min and dropped from 6th to 18th place.

Back to #7 I had some equipment trouble and lost another minute (at the dark red spot halfway to the control), but still recovered 5 places.

My route around to the right on the road to #8 was pretty good, but hitting the control perfectly was at least partly luck.

Very nice direction running over to #9, also good flow to the next controls until the very easy #17 where I simply failed to spot the reflex marker since it hung on the back side of a fir tree. Lost around 15 s here.

I should have gone more direct/right to #18. 10-15s?

OK to #19 and then the remaining controls were just a lot of running, even though I passed a few people into the controls.

In the end I was 3:23 behind my friend Eivind Hoff, that could have been possible without the 6-7 trouble but I would have needed a very clean run to beat him, he had very few slow splits tonight!
