Some controls OK, some quite bad indeed. -7C, 15-20 cm snow and back/hip pain that made it very hard to run.
OK to #1, then I had folded my map so that I started running towards #7 (which I hit perfectly), but attacking #2 from that starting point was quite hard and I ended up dropping about 5 miinutes on this control.
OK to #3, then I missed #4 by a few meters and followed some old tracks all the way to the boulder to the south. Lost nearly 1.5 minutes.
Good flow to #5, 6 & back to 7 which I knew that I would recognize, then I took the reverse route from what I had done between #1 & 2 and this turned out to be very smart: I had the third best split time to #8 and according to Livelox the five best splits all took my route. At this point I had advanced to 10th place.
I decided to take the completely safe route to #9, following the paths to the junction underneath the power line, but as I approached the control my head lamp started blinking to warn me that it was about to run out of power! I adjusted it to the absolute minimum power level and hoped that I would finish before I lost all light, but this distraction caused me to stop too early and I lost 5-6 minutes here, then I failed to see the reflex on the last control and lost another half a minute, and then I read the purple line to the finish as another track and thought I followed this when I ran along the path. When I hit the ski track I still thought I had gone straight down and turned right to find the junction, so I ended up retracing my path back through the start triangle, losing over 3 minutes!
