My best race this month? :-)

Egil's map covers a very interesting area, the main problems are caused by the north-south ridges and the very lush bracken & blueberry but on a dry day like today it isn't too bad.

1: Very nice start, I matched the winning split time of Audun Heimdal who just returned from the JWOC in Switzerland.

2: OK, just a few seconds behind Audun on this short uphill leg.

3: Good flow until the very end where I lost map contact for a few seconds, stopped and then went around the knoll with the control cliff. Lost 25-30 sec according to the GPS track.

4: OK

5: OK

6: I lost 38 seconds to Tore Sagvolden on this split, he must have found a significantly better route. (Audun was far ahead of course!)

7: OK

8: I thought I ran well here but Svein (who runs in H65) was still 7 seconds faster.

9: On this control I ran very well all the way until the end where I had misread the clue sheet so I thought the control was on a cliff. This meant that I passed just underneath the flag without ever looking up above the cliff face. I lost 1:20 here but several others made a similar mistake, including the race winner!

10: My plan was to keep to the right of the line and hit the narrow knoll just south of the circle but some windfall forced me to stay lower in the hillside so I was glad when I still hit it perfectly.

Finish: Two years ago, shortly after my ankle/hip operation I lost over two minutes on a similar run-in, today I was just 25 sec slower than Audun and faster than the rest of the veterans.
