Lost a minute on #1, looking at the GPS track it is possible that the logging ride have been moved since the map was drawn? I did end up a bit further left than expected when I took a bearing from the ride bend. I should have gone straight though, making sure I hit the blue (not green) marsh at the same elevation as the control. I lost a minute here, but today that didn't make any difference to my final position (nr 3!)
I won the split to #2, partly due to the anger and adrenalin from the miss on #1, but mostly due to good execution of an almost straight route, using the cliffs after 70% of the leg as my verification, then I aimed slightly left after the path crossing to make sure I would see the ditch.
The slight uphill to #3 in the very lush vegetation covering the indistinct marshland was a real blocker, I ran, stumbled and even walked until I spotted the dot knoll with the boulder behind it: There was a control here so I knew the boulder had to be mapped and hit my own control easily.
#4 turned out to be easy, just running a careful bearing and checking the details I crossed, then near the end I could see the big marsh to my right so I just aimed for the knolly area.
#5 was dead easy, but the marsh must have been horrible for the first starters who had to break trail through the deep & dense grass cover.
I intended to contour around the first hill to #6 but decided to play it safe by going over the top.
#7 was probably 10-15 s faster if you could go down the valley under the big cliff and find a good opening leading directly to the flag, but my route was safer.
Contoured to #8, then a lot of running!
